The New Office Web Apps roll out timeline is set for late October. Microsoft has started sending out notices of the upgrade to Office 365 customers, and asking clients to update outdated browsers to prepare for the new features.
Meanwhile, it appears this is not lock-step with the general release of Office 2013 as was previously planned. Microsoft Officials are confirming this news as of late last week.
The Update the new Web Apps will arrive under is SharePoint Online Service Update (SU) 4. Highlights of this release can be found here. Microsoft has warned some administrative features may be unavailable for a brief period during the update.
“We update Office 365 with new capabilities on quarterly basis and sometimes more frequently. This is part of our regular cadence of updates,” spoke a Microsoft representative when asked about the incoming arrival of the Office Web Apps update.
One change worth drawing attention to, Microsoft’s Office Web Apps were released with a wide range of support for all major browsers. While that is still true, a few legacy browsers will be losing support with the most recent release of Office Web Apps. Specifically, Explorer 7 and Safari 4.
